There is two kinds of isozyme in liver for AST Aspartate Aminotransferase. They exist in the mitochondria (mAST) and cytoplasm of the transaminase of hepatic fine grain respectively. Normally, the content in mesocardial cell is more higher than it in liver, serum. It mainly exists in the mitochondria of hepatocytes. And when the liver is damaged, the concentration of AST will go high. When the concentration keeps high in hepatitis suffer, it means the Hepatocellular inflammation is continuous, and the damange is also continuous . So the detection of AST could be used as an aid to diagnose some diseases.
